Star Wars: What are the most collectible lightsabers?

People who have watched Star Wars all hope to have a lightsaber of their own. Since Luke Skywalker first ignited his father's lightsaber in Obi-Wan Kenobi's hut, we have never stopped exploring the legendary stories in Star Wars.

Every lightsaber has its own unique and fantastical story. Although all lightsabers operate on similar principles, there are actually a wide variety of them - each one adjusted to the fighting style of its user. Not all lightsabers appear in Star Wars movies and TV shows; some are found in anime and comics, which are not part of the official canon. No one can be sure they have seen all Star Wars works, as they are still being updated.

Every lightsaber is unique, but the differences between them can also reflect the creativity and personality of their users. Some lightsabers have defensive capabilities far exceeding those of advanced lightsabers, while others are specifically designed for offense. Not every lightsaber has a particularly significant historical meaning or some impressive unique feature. Now let's explore some lightsabers that are both refreshing and memorable.

The Most Powerful Lightsabers: A Ranking of Special Significance

Lightsaber enthusiasts often wonder questions like "Which lightsaber is the most powerful?" or "Does the color represent power?" Let's rank them based on their design, the abilities of their users, and their influence in galactic legends.

12. Pistol Lightsaber: Lightsaber burst gun

In Star Wars: Rise of the Righteous, Ezra Bridger built himself an original lightsaber that integrated a lightsaber and explosive energy gun into one system. While this design may have some limitations in real-world combat, it certainly brings more creativity and possibilities to the fight.

Bridger's lightsaber burst energy gun still makes sense as his transition blade, as he had little to no lightsaber training in Star Wars: Rise of the Righteous. It's also nice to be able to use the burst energy gun portion against long-range opponents; Jedi from that period had a hard time finding the right weapon parts needed for a lightsaber, and Bridger's lightsaber is certainly a breath of fresh air.

Bridger could be said to have taught his enemies a hard lesson during his time in possession of this lightsaber. Unfortunately, Bridger encountered Darth Vader, and not being well versed in lightsaber techniques, he failed to protect his weapon and damaged it. Luckily, he collected enough lightsaber parts to build a normal lightsaber.

11. Lightsaber whip: A lightsaber that combines the characteristics of a whip-like weapon

The lightsaber whip (also known as the electro-whip) made its debut in the fourth season of "The Clone Wars", but in "Star Wars: Legends", it has a long history as one of the more dangerous variants of the lightsaber.

In "The High Republic: A Test of Courage", Vernestra Rwoh, who was just 15 years old, had already become a Jedi Knight. By freely designing her purple lightsaber in her dreams, she modified it to be able to switch between lightsaber and lightsaber whip modes at will. Vernestra Rwoh believed that this was the influence of the will of the Force, created under the guidance of destiny, and thus she began to practice the skills of the lightsaber whip.

During a natural disaster, Ruwo demonstrated the effectiveness of his lightsaber whip, which could clear the path more conveniently. In that situation, being able to clear the way quickly was a powerful display of control over the Force. The lightsaber whip is suitable for close combat or surprise attacks. Due to its unique attack method, the lightsaber whip can deal a fatal blow when the enemy is caught off guard. However, because of its extremely high difficulty to use, the performance of the lightsaber whip in actual combat often depends on the user's skills and experience.

But the light whip is often associated with the Night Sisters and is also one of their signature weapons.

10. Umbrella Lightsaber

The umbrella lightsaber is the most fantastical designed lightsaber to date. Its structure is similar to that of an umbrella. If spun, it would be a great choice for being waterproof and bulletproof. It first appeared in the first episode of the first season of "Star Wars: Visions", where a Sith bandit leader named Kouru used a long staff with several blades at the end. Kouru spun the umbrella-like end of the staff and easily blocked dozens of blaster shots fired from a Z-6 rotary mini gun, proving that its defensive capabilities are extremely high.

Design structure: The umbrella-shaped device is actually an attachment for the Sith standard lightsaber. When multiple Sith lightsabers are fixed on the hilt, the single-bladed lightsaber transforms into a huge circular multi-bladed lightsaber.

Practicality: When the lightsaber umbrella is spinning, it has unparalleled defensive capabilities and can act as a huge shield, blocking all attacks in front of it.
However, its manufacturing difficulty, practicality, and the expected high cost determine its popularity, not to mention its weight. If you search for it, most of the results you get will be about umbrellas.

9. Lightsaber Spear

Lightsaber lances appeared in animated series such as "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars: Rebels". The Temple Guards of Coruscant used this type of lightsaber lance. The yellow blade symbolized the eternal guardianship of the Jedi Order over the Temple and also represented the warning of the guards.

Among the many lightsabers, the lightsaber lance is undoubtedly extremely rare. The lightsaber lance is very similar to the double-bladed lightsaber, and many people mistake the lightsaber lance for a double-bladed lightsaber. The tip of the lightsaber lance is a little thinner.

There was a scene about the lightsaber pike at the end of the sixth season of "The Clone Wars", but for some unknown reason, it was deleted. The scene was about the appearance of Darth Bane. It was removed before the sixth season of "The Clone Wars" premiered.

8. Imperial Inquisitor Lightsaber: Rotating Lightsaber

The Imperial Inquisitor is a disturbing agent of the dark side and a main force of the Inquisitorius, which hunts down Jedi Knights. Known for his unique double-bladed sword, it is astonishing that his double-bladed lightsaber can spin and fly freely. Most terrifyingly, the rotating lightsaber is an extremely threatening existence, capable of cutting down all enemies in its flight path.

His flying skills have wiped out countless enemies for the empire. To those who lack strength or experience, it is undoubtedly an insurmountable force. Many people lose their courage to fight just by seeing this scene. Its threat is even more terrifying than the propellers of a real helicopter, because lightsabers can easily cut through steel.

The lightsaber of the Imperial Inquisitor glowed with a fearsome red light, portending an ominous omen. This deep red symbolized his loyalty to the Sith and his embodiment of the dark side of the Force. Those who were not afraid would see this rhythmic spinning as a weakness rather than an advantage - Ahsoka.

The lightsaber of the Imperial Inquisitor made its debut in the animated series "Star Wars: Rebels". When the Imperial Inquisitor dueled with the Ghost crew and the remaining Jedi, the red glow emitted from the lightsaber undoubtedly indicated its power.

7. Kylo Ren's Unstable Lightsaber: Crossguard Lightsaber

The shape of Kylo Ren's lightsaber was not deliberately designed by him, but was caused by an accident during its creation. At that time, Kylo was fusing the kyber crystal into the lightsaber. Just as he was about to complete it and was feeling elated, he discovered that the crack on the kyber crystal was slowly expanding. If not stopped, an explosion would occur.

To balance this energy, Kaelo created two secondary blade channels for the lightsaber to disperse the energy output. The damaged kyber crystal resulted in this unstable lightsaber.

Where did Kylo Ren's red kyber crystal come from?
Kylo Ren obtained his kyber crystal during his time as a Jedi Padawan. After joining the dark side, Kylo used an ancient Sith ritual called "bloodletting" to turn the kyber crystal red.

6. Darth Maul's Lightsaber: Double-Bladed Lightsaber

Darth Maul was once Palpatine's strictly trained disciple and also his efficient weapon. He first appeared in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and disappeared after being defeated by Obi-Wan. However, his coldness and efficiency left a deep impression on the audience. Maul's lightsaber is composed of two standard lightsaber hilt connected together, forming a double-headed structure that can activate the light blades at both ends simultaneously. This design allows it to be used as a long-handled weapon or split into two single-bladed lightsabers.

Darth Maul Lightsaber

Combat Style and Performance in Battle

The Classic Duels with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan: In "The Phantom Menace," Maul defeated Qui-Gon Jinn with his double-bladed lightsaber and engaged in a fierce battle with Obi-Wan. Although Qui-Gon's Ataru form (Form IV) was powerful in attack, it consumed energy quickly. Maul used the confined space and defensive tactics to exhaust Qui-Gon's stamina and ultimately killed him.

The adaptability of lightsaber techniques: Maul's fighting style combines the ferocity of Sith swordsmanship with acrobatic agility. His double-bladed lightsaber is particularly adept at creating visual blind spots. For instance, in the "Clone Wars" animated series, he disrupted his opponent's rhythm by spinning his lightsaber.

The Symbolic Significance of Lightsabers

The embodiment of Sith identity: The design of the double-bladed lightsaber originated from the ancient Sith Lord Exar Kun, symbolizing the Sith's innovation and subversion of the traditional Jedi weapon.

The vessel of power and vengeance: In "The Clone Wars" and "Rise of the Resistance," Maul frequently returns and regains his lightsaber (such as the Darksaber), and his weapon is not only a tool for combat but also a symbol of his pursuit of vengeance and power.

5. Mace Windu's Purple Lightsaber

Mace Windu's purple lightsaber originated from actor Samuel L. Jackson's suggestion. He wanted his character to stand out more in the Clone Wars scenes of the Star Wars prequels, especially when hundreds of Jedi were simultaneously brandishing blue or green lightsabers. The purple lightsaber would allow him to be "recognized at a glance". This design was eventually adopted by George Lucas.

Mace Windu Jedi Lightsaber

Wen Du's lightsaber uses a unique purple Kyber Crystal, which is extremely rare among Jedi Knights. The birth of the purple lightsaber not only reflects the character's personality but also breaks the traditional color rules of Jedi lightsabers.

Combat Performance and Unique Features
Deterrence in Battle: In "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones" and "Episode III - Revenge of the Sith", Windu demonstrated overwhelming combat prowess with his purple lightsaber. He single-handedly fought dozens of battle droids in the Geonosis arena and eventually engaged in a duel with Darth Sidious, becoming one of the few Jedi capable of directly countering the Sith Lord.
Modifications and Functions of the Lightsaber: Some derivative works suggest that Windu's lightsaber may have had special features. For instance, its hilt design emphasized balance to better handle intense close combat. Some non-canon sources also imply that the lightsaber might have been equipped with a device to enhance Force sensitivity.

4. Ahsoka Tano's White Lightsaber

Ahsoka's white lightsaber originated from her experience of fighting against the Inquisitors after Order 66. After defeating an Inquisitor, she seized the red kyber crystal that had been tainted by the dark side's "bleeding". Through a deep connection with the light side of the Force, she purified these crystals, restoring them to their pure white state, symbolizing the fading of the dark power and her personal redemption.

The birth of the white lightsaber was not only a technological innovation, but also marked Ahsoka's break with the Jedi Order. She refused to return to the Order and chose to defend the light side as an independent, and thus her weapon color stood in sharp contrast to the traditional blue and green lightsabers of the Jedi.

Combat Style and Practical Application
Unique Skills of Dual-Bladed Lightsaber: Ahsoka typically wields two white lightsabers, employing the "Jar'Kai" dual-bladed technique. Her combat style combines the agility of the Jedi with the pragmatism of the Mandalorians. For instance, in the second season of "The Mandalorian," she used her dual lightsabers to subdue an enforcer armed with a beskar metal spear, demonstrating her adaptability to unconventional weapons.

Strategic elements in action: In the "Ahsoka" series, the white lightsaber often contrasts with weapons like the Darksaber. For instance, in her collaboration with Sabine Wren, the lightsaber is not only a weapon but also a bond of master and apprentice. Sabine briefly used Ezra's lightsaber, while Ahsoka consistently used her white lightsaber to reinforce her independence.

3. The Dark Saber Forged by the Mandalorians

The Dark Saber was forged by Tarre Vizsla, a Mandalorian who was the first of his kind to join the Jedi Order. His unique status endowed the Dark Saber with a dual imprint of Mandalorian culture and Jedi tradition. Tarre Vizsla combined the Mandalorian Beskar alloy forging technique with the Jedi's Kyber Crystal, giving the Dark Saber its distinctive black blade, flat and curved appearance, and low-frequency hum, setting it apart from other lightsabers.

The Dark Blade was created during the Old Republic era. The Jedi Temple once kept it as a sacred relic. Later, it was stolen back to Mandalore by a member of the Vizsla clan and became a symbol of power.

Symbolic Significance and Cultural Status
Symbol of Legitimate Power: Mandalorian tradition holds that only those who win the dark saber in a duel are qualified to rule. This rule has repeatedly sparked conflicts. For instance, Bo-Katan's failure to obtain the dark saber through combat led to her failed reign, and the dark saber is even said to be cursed in legend.

The embodiment of technology and power: The unique design of the Dark Saber enables it to heat up and even destroy beskar alloy, a feat that ordinary lightsabers cannot achieve. This feature was showcased in "The Mandalorian" through the duel between Gideon and Din Djarin, highlighting its status as the "strongest melee weapon".

2. Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber

Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber was crafted during the period of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (around 22 BBY), designed and assembled by Anakin himself. As a weapon for a Jedi Knight, it adheres to the traditional lightsaber-making techniques but incorporates Anakin's personal style.

Anakin's lightsaber is not only one of the most recognizable weapons in "Star Wars", but also a core narrative thread running through the series. It carries the glory and tragedy of the Skywalker family and continues the spirit of resistance in the hands of new-generation characters. From Obi-Wan to Luke and then to Rey, the lightsaber has passed through three generations, becoming a spiritual totem of resistance against oppression. In "The Last Jedi", Luke called it "a sacred relic of the Jedi".

The lightsaber was discovered by the scavenger Rey on Jakku in "The Force Awakens", and later returned to her by Maz Kanata. Rey triggered a Force vision through the lightsaber and ultimately used it to defeat Palpatine in "The Rise of Skywalker".

The lightsaber was ultimately inherited by Rey, who is not of Skywalker blood, suggesting the universality of the Force beyond bloodlines and echoing the prophecy of "balancing the Force". Rey buried the lightsaber along with Leia's on Tatooine, marking the end of the Skywalker saga.

1. Rey's Lightsaber

Rey's yellow lightsaber was revealed at the end of the sequel trilogy, marking the arrival of a new era. Before the blade lit up, there were flashes of green and blue light, eventually settling on a yellow glow. This represents the close connection between this lightsaber and the Jedi; it is not merely a weapon; it is a beacon of change and a promise for the future.
